Tough Mudder

g

Bill Tucker '69 and daughter, Jody, completed the Tough Mudder competition in Aconia, Georgia on February 11, 2012. This is a 12-mile cross-country obstacle course designed by British Special Forces that "tests your all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie." They completed the course in a respectable 4.5 hours.

Competitions are run world-wide in support of the Wounded Warrior Project. Their purpose is to raise awareness and enlist aid for the needs of injured service members.

According to Bill, "Lots of sore muscles, but I am very proud of Jody for toughing it out with her old man."

Triathlon Win

Now this is what we are talking about. Congratulation to Jerry Kyckelhahn '64.

He won his age group, Men 65-69 years of age, in the Long Course Triathlon National Championship in Myrtle Beach this past October. This event is a half-Ironman length triathlon. This means Jerry swam 1.2 miles, rode his bike for 56 miles and then ran 13.1 miles.

Lt. Col. Bennett Hardy - Tuskegee Airmen
g

Red Tails, the new WWII movie from George Lucas is going to hit the theaters soon. This drama is inspired by the true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American combat pilots to serve in the U.S. military.

Lt. Col. Bennett Hardy, father of Rick '66, Wes '67 and Toni '70 was one of these brave airmen who contributed to WWII and the fight against racism. He died at the age of 82 after a 29-year career in the Air Force and 20 years as a Cottage Tech at the ER Johnson Training and Research Center in New Jersey.

Colonel Hardy died over 5 years ago, but his contribution to our nation's history lives on forever. Please let us know of other Tuskegee Airmen in our Ankara Family.
