Turkey Tour 2006
Konya

Mevlanes Tomb

Upon arrival in Konya, we went straight to the Mausoleum of Mevlana, the 13th Century founder of the Whirling Dervishes.

As has happened everywhere in Turkey, children would spot us and shout, “Hello!” When we responded, they would ask our names and where we came from.

Dervish Cell

This was an actual Dervish cell in the Mausoleum. The turban on his hat indicates that he was a Master.

Street Art

These wall hangings were displayed outside the Mausoleum. Notice the mirrors, which the Dervish teachings say reflect the divinity within us.

Caravansaray Cart

We left for Cappadocia and stopped at the Sultanhani
Caravansaray, where caravans of camels would stop
along the trade route, and the sultan would provide
for a three day stay. Anyone staying longer than
three days was required to pay.

This view from inside is looking towards the center.
