Turkey Tour 2006
Recap

We had a chance to visit with a few other Ankara
alumni during our Turkey tour. Nes joined us in
Ankara and made all the arrangements for our flight
from Ankara to Istanbul.

Isa was an exceptional guide who made sure we experienced Turkish culture as we toured his beloved country. We ate only Turkish food, met the people and
dined in their homes. His knowledge of history was extensive, and he entertained us with stories about Turkish traditions and culture during our long drives.

Worry Beads

Isa always had his worrybeads in his hand.

We became fond of Mustafa, who kept cold water available for us in the cooler by the back door of the coach. He kept a gentle sense of humor as he maneuvered the bus through traffic, single lane roads and slowly up the mountain passes. If someone in front of us was a bad driver, he would mutter sternly in Turkish. We couldn’t understand all the words, but we got the gist! After lunch, Mustafa would drive wearing his sunglasses so no one could tell he was taking a nap

Ticket Collage

As you can see from this collage, we visited many sites of interest during our tour of Turkey. Most of the tickets show an image of the site, but a few are plain.

Evil Eye Bead

At the beginning of our tour when we were all seated in the coach, Isa gave each of us one of these evil eye beads to wear during our journey through Turkey. Notice it has yellow in it, representing the sun disc.
