Ankara High School Yearbooks

This section provides many books that are rich in Military life mixed with books from all aspects of life.

Wray Woolley, Shiela Weaver (Kenney)

Wray Woolley (66) played a key role in launching the Ankara High School Yearbooks website by generously donating space on his server. In 2005, Shiela Weaver (67) created and designed e-Citadel, beginning the process of uploading yearbook files to Wray’s server. As the site continued to grow, it was moved to a new server in February 2011 to accommodate its expanding size.

During the six-year anniversary effort, the remaining yearbooks from 2006 to 2010 were completed, culminating in the upload of Citadel 2006 on April 9, 2011—completing an extraordinary 58-book collection unmatched by any alumni group. Shiela designed the site in a way that allows visitors to easily view and enjoy the yearbooks. She enhanced the experience by including popular music from each era and engaging historical trivia.

A short history of the school beginning with the arrival of the first American families in 1949 is available in this yearbook. There are so many interesting features in this yearbook, be prepared for some extra links. Dedicated to "the people who are so bravely and valiantly fighting and giving their lives for the cause of freedom ... ," it is as fresh and timely today as it was when first issued.

Chris Buckeye (Goss)

The LORE section of e-Citadel was inspired by Chris Buckeye (Goss) (67), who shared rare memorabilia from the 1960s at a 2005 reunion. Items such as dorm guides, prom materials, and historic maps helped enrich the site’s archival depth. These contributions expanded e-Citadel beyond yearbooks into a broader historical record.

Completed yearbooks from 1968–1971 capture school life through photographs, events, music, and personal moments. Each edition reflects changes in staff, design, and student life across the years. With continued commentary and care from Shiela Weaver, e-Citadel preserves and shares “the rest of the story” for all alumni.

Susan Curran

The 1972 Citadel was completed on May 13, 2005, continuing the rapid progress of yearbook uploads on e-Citadel. With support from Susan Curran (72) and Anita Donohoe (66), Shiela Weaver brought this lively yearbook online. From Don McLean’s American Pie to the Commencement Program, the 1972 edition is engaging and fun to explore.

The 1973 Citadel, completed May 30, 2005, tells its own story despite printing limitations from non-glossy paper produced in Ankara. Additional candid photos and a complete Commencement Program enrich the experience, thanks to the careful scanning by Brian Heyboer ’74. The historical collection continues with the special 1973 Stables edition and the visually distinctive 1974 Citadel, making each yearbook a unique chapter in preserving school history.

The staff felt that to teenagers, life was a game. You can study and work hard, but luck and opportunity can determine your future. They wanted to have fun with this sobering thought.

This yearbook celebrates the Third Culture Kid and their nomatic life style. According to the Editor, Samyaka Verma, "GMC's student population is a map of the world from where they are from, where they've been and where they are going." Samyaka created Suzie, a character with hair exploding from her head in all directions and styles. You can follow Suzie as she travels through this imaginative yearbook.
