Aspendos - John's Kite
Although I have no photos of the theater at Aspendos, I do have a story.
Instead of climbing the steps to the top, I sat with Mustafa and Isa for a cup of tea. While we were talking, I pulled out one of John Stuck 68’s mini kites and laid it on the table. While Isa thought it might, Mustafa declared it wouldn’t fly. I looked Mustafa in the eye and asked if he wanted to make a bet. If I could make it fly, he would have to find me an evil eye bead with yellow in it. He agreed. Of course it flew, and Mustafa was delighted when I presented him with the kite, which he would fly with his grandson. He found five evil eye magnets that had yellow in them at Pigeon Point in Kapadokya and stuck them on the side of our coach for me to discover. When I picked out one, he laughed and slid all five into my hand!
