Ephesus - April 25

Storks building a nest on the way to Ephesus. Isa told us that if you see a stork flying in the Spring, you will travel. We saw a lot of storks flying.

When we entered the site at Ephesus, we saw red poppies everywhere. These are in front of the Council Amphitheater.

The public toilets in Ephesus. There was water running underneath, and the nobles had slaves who would come and clean them with a vinegar-soaked sponge on a stick. Isa explained that the sponge of vinegar offered to Christ on the cross was intended as an insult..

Ikthys Circle

This design on a marble slab in the road to Ephesus is a circle divided by eight lines known as the Ikthys Circle. The five Greek letters translate to “fish,” the symbol of Christianity. Each of the Greek letters can be traced in the circle, as can the Crusaders Cross--which Isa has just drawn--the Star of David and the Pentagram. The Ikthys circle can be found in the design of Hagia Sofia and many other famous architectural structures..
